In the beginning of April 2018, I had a short and memorable trip to Miri or as some people call it the Seahorse City to meet my husband. Miri is also well known as a city of oil and gas whereby Shell discovered petroleum at the Grand Old Lady which is also known as Canada Hill by the locals.

I travelled solo to Miri from Kuching by flight. It was raining cats and dogs throughout my journey to Miri. The flight experienced a slight turbulence due to the weather. I landed in Miri Airport to find my husband was already waiting. He had a car so we drove to the hotel which was Nova Hotel and it was located at the city center. It took about 30-45minutes from airport to the hotel. There was nothing much to do as it was already late due to my flight which was delayed for an hour.

The next morning, we had breakfast at 2020 cafe where people go there to have a taste of their delicious dimsums. There were many varieties of food but people mainly come for the dimsums. We had the chicken feet and other dimsums which tasted better than Kuching. Later that day we went to Bintang Megamall to walk around then to Permaisuri Mall to catch a movie. After movie ended, we went to Container City to have dinner. The concept of that place was so beautiful. When we finished dinner, we went back to the hotel to get some rest.

The following day, we picked my uncle and grandparents from the airport and we had breakfast then we went to their hotel. After they settled down, we went to the market because my grandmother wanted to buy beras bario and cencaluk to bring back to Kuching. Later that afternoon, we went for a drive to Tusan Beach to have a glimpse of the magnificent cliff as the shape of a horses’ head. The duration from Miri city center to Tusan beach took about an hour at 80-90kmh. Driving back down to go grab dinner at Tanjung Lubang Restaurant. While we were having our dinner at the restaurant, there was a car which was going so fast and almost stumbled after the tyre hit the divider. We were all shocked because it was not far from where we were sitting. After dinner, we went back to pack because i was going back the next day.

It was my last day of this trip. After checking out from the hotel, we had this crazy idea to drive to Marudi just to meet a friend. We started our journey after brunch and it took us 2 hours or more to reached Marudi due to rocky roads and bumpy hills. We reached our friend’s house in Marudi after 2 and a half hours. He brought us for lunch and brought us around Marudi. We saw the church, school, hospital and the airport. Later that afternoon, we drove back and went straight to Grand Old Lady to see the fantastic view of Miri City. Before heading to the airport, we went to Coco Cabana to watch the sunset and to see around because i have not been there before. Then we had dinner at Klang Claypot Bak Kut Teh because i was craving for bak kut teh due to my pregnancy. After dinner, my hisband sent me to the airport and just in time for boarding. Once i landed in kuching International Airport, my parents picked me up and we went home.
